Proper maintenance not only extends their lifespan but also ensures the safety and hygiene of the beverages they contain.Due to differences in material properties and usage environments, a scientific maintenance method should cover aspects such as purchase verification, daily cleaning, proper storage, and regular inspection, forming a standardized management system to maximize the bottle's performance.

The first step in maintenance is initial selection and verification. Prioritize products that meet food contact safety standards and verify material specifications and relevant certifications, such as food-grade raw material labels for polyethylene terephthalate (PET), high-density polyethylene (HDPE), and polypropylene (PP). Disposable PET bottles are not suitable for long-term or repeated use, especially not for repeated filling at high temperatures or in an opened state, to prevent leakage or bacterial growth due to stress accumulation and micro-cracks. Reusable HDPE or PP bottles should be thoroughly cleaned before first use to remove mold release agents and dust from the production process, laying a clean foundation for subsequent maintenance.

Routine cleaning is the core step in maintenance. For reusable bottles, it is recommended to use food-grade neutral detergent and warm water (generally not exceeding 60℃) for cleaning. Avoid strong acids, strong alkalis, or chlorine bleach to prevent material aging, discoloration, or odor. When mechanically cleaning, use soft brushes or sponges to prevent surface scratches that could affect transparency and hygiene. For bottles with anti-fog or decorative coatings, avoid using rough tools and organic solvents to maintain the integrity of the functional layers. If disinfection is required, hot water soaking, food-grade disinfectant, or ultraviolet irradiation can be used, but the temperature and corrosion resistance guidelines provided by the manufacturer must be followed. After disinfection, be sure to rinse thoroughly with clean running water to remove any residual disinfectant and place in a well-ventilated and dry place to air dry completely to prevent mold growth caused by damp environments.

The storage environment significantly affects the effectiveness of maintenance. Plastic juice bottles should be stored in a cool, dry, and dark place, away from heat sources and sharp objects to avoid high temperatures accelerating material aging or external forces causing deformation. When stacking, use a dedicated tray or divider to prevent bottles from sticking together, deforming, or structurally damaging due to pressure. When not in use for an extended period, a thorough cleaning and disinfection should be performed, followed by wrapping in a dust cover or sealed bag to reduce dust and contaminant adhesion, while keeping the interior dry to prevent mold growth.

Regular inspection is a crucial part of the maintenance system. Observe the bottle for cracks, fogging, obvious scratches, or unusual odors. If any defects affecting safety or appearance are found, the bottle should be discarded immediately to prevent leakage or becoming a breeding ground for bacteria during subsequent use. For recyclable bottles, pay attention to the wear and tear of the threaded ends and cap seals, replacing parts as needed to maintain good sealing.

Environmental principles should also be followed during disposal. Single-use bottles should be disposed of according to local waste sorting and recycling regulations. Biodegradable bio-based bottles should be sent to facilities with industrial composting capabilities. Ordinary plastic bottles should be placed in the recyclable waste channel to avoid mixing with non-recyclable waste and reducing resource utilization efficiency.

In general, the maintenance of plastic juice bottles is a systematic process encompassing purchase verification, scientific cleaning, proper storage, and regular inspection.
